1) Who we are

This website is operated by The Culturing Dish (“we”, “us”, “our”). If you have questions about these Terms, email danielle@theculturingdish.org.

Using our site (including submitting a story, contacting us, or signing up to emails) means you agree to these Terms.

2) Other documents that apply

Our Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and your rights. Our cookie banner explains non-essential cookies/analytics.

3) Using our site

You agree to:

  • use the site lawfully and respectfully;

  • not copy, scrape, or reverse-engineer the site or its content;

  • not upload anything unlawful, defamatory, misleading, promotional/spammy, or that infringes others’ rights;

  • not attempt to damage or disrupt the site.

We may suspend or restrict access if these rules are breached.

4) Intellectual property

All content we create or publish on the site, in newsletters, and in our reports (text, graphics, images, logos, layouts) is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by copyright and other rights. You may view the site and share links, but you must not reproduce or commercially use our content without permission (other than fair dealing under UK law).

5) Your submissions (stories, quotes, materials)

What you promise
By sending a submission (e.g., through The Missing Kingdom form or by email/DM), you confirm:

  • the submission is your own work or you have permission to share it;

  • it does not infringe copyright, privacy, or confidentiality rights of others;

  • it is accurate to the best of your knowledge and not unlawful or harmful.

How we may use submissions
You grant The Culturing Dish a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use, reproduce, adapt (including light edits for clarity/length), publish, and distribute your submission for the purposes of:

  • compiling and publishing The Fungal Funding Gap Report;

  • related Culturing Dish projects (e.g., website posts, social media, newsletters, presentations); and

  • archiving our work.

This licence lets us display your submission anonymously or with your name/role, according to the option you choose on the form. If you select “quote me with my name/role”, you also grant us the right to display that attribution.

Confidentiality & third-party data
Submissions are not confidential. Please do not include sensitive personal data about yourself or others, or information you’re not entitled to share. If you refer to others, anonymise them unless you have their consent.

Withdrawing consent
You may request to withdraw your submission at any time by emailing danielle@theculturingdish.org.

  • If we have not yet published, we will stop using it and delete it where feasible.

  • If we have already published, we will stop using it in future versions/outputs and will remove it from our own online locations where reasonably possible, but we cannot recall printed copies, downloads, shares, or third-party archives already created.

6) Emails and updates

If you provide your email on a form and explicitly opt-in to report updates or to our newsletter, we’ll send you those communications. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in our emails or by contacting us. We don’t send marketing without consent.

7) Third-party services & links

We host our site on Squarespace and may use services such as Google reCAPTCHA, Google Drive/Sheets, and social platforms. Those services have their own terms/privacy notices. We’re not responsible for third-party sites you access via links here.

8) No professional advice

Content on our site, newsletters, and reports is for general information only. It is not legal, medical, financial, or other professional advice. You remain responsible for how you use the information.

9) Availability & changes

We aim to keep the site available but do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free access. We may change or remove content (including these Terms) at any time. If changes are material, we’ll update the date above and, where appropriate, notify users.

10) Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude all warranties and are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss or damage arising from use of the site, our emails, or our publications. We do not exclude liability for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, or for death/personal injury caused by our negligence.

11) Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
