Running a national network isn't entirely free. We operate entirely as a not-for-profit, community led organization. Meaning every resource we have goes right back into supporting the network. Right now, our entire team works completely for free, donating their time and energy to keep things moving. However, behind-the-scenes essentials like public liability insurance, website hosting, and structural costs still require real-world funding
We are passionate about keeping our resources and events radically accessible. From organizing our regular Myco Network Meet-Ups to bring mushroom enthusiasts together in person, to providing our guide to finding funding for free (a service other platforms often charge for), we want to ensure everyone can participate.
As we grow, we plan to roll out even more free resources, tools, and community initiatives. To help us cover our core background costs and keep our regular community meetups free and accessible to all, we will be hosting a Grand Silent Auction later in the year at Fungi Town!
How You Can Help: Donate to the Auction
If you want to support The Culturing Dish and all the work we do for the mycology community, we would love your help sourcing auction items.
Let's face it: anyone who loves fungi usually winds up with a brilliant, random collection of mushroom related items at home. Whether things we've bought ourselves or quirky gifts from well meaning friends! If you have any items sitting around that deserve a new home, we would love to have them.
Please bring your mushroom-related donations to a Myco Network Meet-up and hand them over to the organizers. We are looking for anything fungal, including:
Art & Crafts: Original artwork, handmade crafts, pottery, or textiles.
Media & Print: A favorite mushroom book you've finished, posters, or postcards.
Gear & Goodies: Foraging gear, cultivation supplies, vouchers or unique oddities.
Can't make it to the next meetup? If you have an item you'd love to donate but can't attend in person, we will be providing a shipping address very soon!
Where will the money go?
Proceeds from the Grand Silent Auction will first go toward covering the essential costs of organizing and running the event. Once those event costs are taken care of, every single penny goes directly back into The Culturing Dish. Your donations will help us massively expand our platform, allowing us to increase the free resources available on our website, host online seminars led by expert mycologists, and fund future community initiatives.
